Shop Awesome - DODOcase Protects from Extinction

Welcome to a new column called Shop Awesome. Whenever this type of article comes up on the site you can expect me to talk about a really great company/product/service that I use in my day to day life that I want to share with the world. Unless otherwise noted, I am not sponsored and do not have any affiliation with these organizations, I simply love their products and want to help spread the word.

Let's say you just got the shiny new iPad. You're probably pretty happy about that right? I would be am. Now let's say that someone breaks into your house and starts rummaging for electronics to snatch. iPad gone. On the other hand, let's consider that you're in the kitchen making dinner and your new iPad, which was gorgeously displaying your recipe in Retina Display graphics, falls off the counter and smashes on the floor. iPad gone.

Having your iPad bite the dust for one reason or another would definitely ruin more than a few good moods. Luckily for you, I have a practical, yet elegant solution. Get a DODOcase.

This is my DODOcase. There are many like it, but this one is mine. What is DODOcase you ask? Please let me inform you. DODOcase is my chosen iPad case manufacturer that uses traditional bookbinding techniques to make a truly amazing product. Based in San Francisco, California, DODOcase is a company that lives up to their slogan more than most. DODOcases protects your iPad from extinction. These cases feel like wonderful moleskin notebooks and not only provide some needed drop-security, it provides some "hey, that looks expensive, let's steal that" security.

I have now been directly involved in the purchase of five DODOcases. I bought one when I got my iPad 2 and ended up selling the case with the iPad to the Day Job. I happily got another case with some added personalization features, and the others were purchased on behalf of family and friends.

Check out the spine. Looks pretty fancy, professional and awesome right!?These cases look fantastic, feel fantastic, and are a great value. Furthermore, how often can you purchase something for use in the technological world and support not only an American company, but a product that is made in the United States? That's a big part of the reason I love this product so much. Their existence is providing me not only with a wicked iPad case, but they are supporting the bookbinding industry that is threatened by the rise of tablets and e-books by building cases for tablets and e-readers. It really is a fantastic harmony of tradition, technology and good old fashion American-can-do.

In addition the the moleskin feel, each DODOcase has a bamboo frame to securely hold your device. Recent generations of DODOcases even come with personalization options. You can add camera holes (now that the iPad contains a camera worth using) and free form text or monograms on the spine and the front cover.

DODOcases even come with a cardboard iPad. You can't really ask for more than that.I recently purchased a DODOcase for a family member and have a coupon code to share with you. If you are in the market for a great iPad, Kindle or Blackberry Playbook case I really cannot recommend DODOcase highly enough. Use the link http://curebit.com/x/ESSLH to shop and you'll get 10% off your order! That coupon is good for another three days and change as of this writing (late Wednesday morning, CST). I admit, if anyone does buy a DODOcase with that link I would receive a rebate as part of the transaction, but in complete sincerity, my big intent is to share the word about an awesome product.

Does anyone out there use DODOcase? Throw in your two cents in the comments below!

On one hand, it's definitely a nice product. On the other hand, I don't think that paper books will be a part of this world much longer, so trying to maintain the book building industry seems like a lost cause. As much as I love having a whole bookshelf brimming with all the novels I have read over the expanse of my life, the convenience of having that same collection in something as compact as my cellphone pretty much wins out.
Much like the Encyclopedia Britannica, the world of books is slowly coming to an end. It's a sad time, but it's also pretty exciting. The idea of having a whole library in the palm of my hand just makes me want to embrace my inner nerd.

All the more reason to support an industry under fire. I don't think the traditional paper book will be eradicated in our lifetime. I agree, I enjoy the convenience of digital books, such as being able to read a chapter no matter which bathroom I'm using, but there is no substitute to holding a book in your hands.
